As the mother of a special needs son, I encourage everyone to read Steph’s Story. Jenny has used this book to show love and involvement and what a family can do to provide for and encourage their “person.” This story will touch your heart, make you laugh and cry, and have a better understanding of our special needs friends for having read it.

Steph’s Story is one of the best compilations of the dynamic history of services and supports for a person with a disability and its impact on the family and community. Person-Centered/ Person-Driven services are highlighted in Steph's life from birth on…This is a great read for families, siblings, teachers, and ALL who work and support individuals with disabilities.

What a delightful and powerful story of sisters building a good life! I was blessed to know both sisters and parents. Their story, told so well, is the story many need to hear today so the issues and answers can be shared.

Steph’s Story offers a rare look into the life of a person with Down syndrome, and how Steph, her parents and her family broke the barriers of the time. Jennifer Sager helps the reader understand how best to assist — and allow — people with disabilities to live their lives to their fullest potential. Steph’s life, her struggles, and her journey to independence are heart-warming and motivating. This book is invaluable a must-read for anyone who knows a person with a disability.

Steph’s Story is part a coming-of-age story, part history lesson as to how far the country has come with disability legislation, and part how-to handbook for managing community resources. It is an insightful and important read for families and caregivers striving to support independence and optimal thriving for their disabled loved one, healthcare professionals and educators developing best practice interventions, and lawmakers advocating for disability rights.
