WWW.YELLOWSTONEFAITHFUL.COM -- We have secured the site www.yellowstonefaithful.com. It will take you straight to our regular Yellowstone Faithful site, but it's just another way people can find us.
Don't forget Flagg Ranch -- Between Yellowstone and the Tetons, find Flagg Ranch. It's a great place to pick up last minute groceries and other items, including a copy of The Yellowstone Faithful. We don't mean to give a free advertisement, but they were the first YNP area store to stock our book. Plus, we've stopped there many times ourselves.
Iceland's geysers on our page -- Iceland is the other place with geysers. In fact their largest geyser was dormant until an earthquake brought it back to life. Hmmm...where have we heard that kind of thing before? Anyway, thanks to our world-travelling friend Dr. Russ Snook of North Dallas Eye for these pics of some Iceland "geysirs."
Is The Yellowstone Faithful coming true? -- In addition to being a thrilling story, The Yellowstone Faithful addresses the issues of use vs. protectionism in our cherished wilderness. The book supports using the resources wisely rather than trying to keep people out. Coincidentally, the same time this book was coming off the presses, the Park Service was acting to ban snowmobiles from Yellowstone and the Tetons. Also, Yosemite is moving to limit auto traffic within that park. Now there is a move to limit cross-country skiing in the Tetons.
These issues follow exactly the kind of theme that runs throughout the novel. To author Kyle Hannon it appears that snowmobiles may be causing problems in the park. He hopes a solution can be found that lets many, many people experience the wonder of winter in Yellowstone. Banning snowmobiles seems to run counter to that, but some kind of action may be necessary. Hannon cautions those who want to ban snowmobiles to be careful who they choose for allies. Some of the forces against snowmobiles today may be against all tourists in all seasons.
At least Old Faithful is still working. That part of the book has not come true, we think. Check it out yourself on the NPS Old Faithful Webcam.
